$150K in OUtstanding Taxes

The American Republic reports delinquent taxpayers owe the City of Poplar Bluff nearly $155,000. Finance/Personnel Director Mark Massingham presented a 53-page list of delinquent real estate and personal property taxes to the Poplar Bluff City Council Monday night. Real estate tax bills still owed total $95,474.61 while personal property tax bills still owed total $59,127.81. The taxes had to be paid on Dec. 31 to avoid penalties. Councilman Loyd Matthews noted several businesses have not paid their property taxes. “It concerns me on fairness issues,” said Matthews, who emphasized the taxes need to be paid so the city can provide the services that everyone wants. By city ordinance, the annual merchant’s license cannot be issued to a business until its taxes are paid, according to Massingham
